Health Care Professions Department
Since 2014, the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong has provided comprehensive and high-quality pain and sports injury treatment services to members and community residents at its Kowloon headquarters, based on the principle of holistic rehabilitation. The services are managed by a professional team of physiotherapists, sports therapists, and specialized instructors who utilize a combination of Eastern and Western integrated therapies, along with targeted rehabilitation training, to enhance treatment effectiveness and improve physical quality. Additionally, speech therapists provide appropriate speech therapy assessment and treatment services for children with speech difficulties and members with swallowing issues at Wong Chuen King Student Development Centre, as well as in elderly and mentally challenged residences under the Association.
To align with the government’s promotion of medical-community collaboration and enhance the grassroots healthcare policy in the region, as well as to address the service demands arising from an aging population, the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong established the “Health Care Professions Department” at the beginning of 2020. This cross-disciplinary treatment team consists of physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and sports therapists. They provide one-stop services including physical therapy, aquatic physical therapy, sports therapy, running therapy, dynamic correction, and specialized treatment to pain patients, sports injuries, and fitness enthusiasts at the Kowloon physical therapy department and the “YM Motion Specialized Treatment Centre” located in the nearby Lai Kee Mansion. Therapeutic training classes and seminars are also held to provide comprehensive health information for the public. Moreover, the therapy team continues to provide appropriate rehabilitation treatment services for those in need at the Association’s elderly and rehabilitation residences and Wong Chuen King Student Development Centre.
By the end of 2024, the Health Care Professions Department have established a new service point at the Albion Plaza in Tsim Sha Tsui—“Tsim Sha Tsui Kei Yau Integrated Health Centre.” In addition to Western medical services, the team will incorporate pediatric occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physiotherapy services into the center. A brand new sensory integration therapy room will also be set up to provide better and more comprehensive training programs forchildrens in need.
